2008 in review

With all of this doom & gloom talk about the economy, I thought that we could reflect on some *good* things that happened this past year. Here are our personal highlights of 2008:

5. Retirement of the Cab (my '93 VW Cabriolet that I had been driving since junior year of high school) and purchase of the Camry. Now, some of you may be thinking, "What? How is that a highlight? You got rid of a classic car!" Well, classic it may have been, but more so than that, it was unreliable, and it was deteriorating piece by piece from the inside out. So cheers to the Camry!

4. Celebrating our First Anniversary in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We rented a sweet cabin, hiked all day and jumped off a foot bridge into the James River!

3. California vacation. We got to spend a good chunk of quality time with family in San Diego and Ventura. We also spent some time with my friends from Santa Monica Summer Project '05. We saw the Beach Boys in concert, kayaked around the Channel Islands (not to mention encountered a family of sea lions playing in the water only a few feet from us!!), went to the San Diego Zoo and certainly ate our fair share of burritos.

2. Leading the high school youth group at WEPC. This has really been a privilege for both of us. We have so enjoyed investing in these kids' lives, they are all awesome! Through leading we've gained new friendships, learned a ton about God, love, grace and pop culture, and had sooo much fun!

1. Riley! He was immediately a part of the family. We love him and he really loves us. He's provided laughs, comfort, and unconditional love that makes you oh so eager to get home each day. He is big, goofy and lovable. In the words of Daddy Dempsey, "It's Steve in dog form!" Riley fits right in with us, and we are glad to have him in our life!
