Steve's grandpa, dearly known to us as Awpa, was born! We had the privilege to celebrate Awpa's 90th birthday with him in California just a few weeks ago. The whole Norris clan was there along with the Wernlis and Stangarones! The elements were against us during our 4 day visit... first of all, it rained, every day. I thought rain was unheard of in San Diego! Also, the time change almost got the best of me. Oh yes, the wretched jet lag fought vigorously to wear me down and steal my comfort & joy! It may have worn me down and claimed victory in that one battle, but it certainly did not rob me of the joy that surrounded the birthday celebration and family time. We had some time to explore San Diego with the bros (and Brittnay) prior to the festivities that weekend. Aside: Brittany is one of the most loyal and sacrificial friends I've known... seriously, she drove from LA to San Diego just to spend what seemed like a glimpse of time with us! B, I love you, thank you for loving me well and thank you for the fun memories. PS: I'm still angry at the west coast for stealing you away :) With that said, we did a little thrifting, a little seal watching, a little Thai food eating and a little guitar factory touring in our short time in Cali. I also visited the San Diego mission for the first time. It was interesting, mildly boring. Any-who... the birthday started with a family dinner at the ever-popular Claim Jumper, an Awpa favorite. And before the night was out, we just had to order a slice of the Motherlode, a six-layer chocolate cake that's, no joke, over a foot tall! Steve started salivating at just the mention of the king-sized cake. Haha. The *real* party started on Saturday at the Gateway Gardens Assisted Living Center with lunch and cake and you bet, karaoke! While no family members actually participated in singing, it was entertaining enough to listen to and watch the residents break it down on the mic!! Good times. Great job Aunt Bevy, Barb and all who contributed to planning. And thanks Bob & Krissy for hosting the after-party :) We love you family!
