It was a cold, blustery night, and after the lights flickered a few times, we knew we'd lose power. It was only a matter of time. We live in an older neighborhood with large trees and above ground power lines. We lose power often. And we should have bought a generator by now like every other house on the block, but this Mr. Money Mustache-loving family decided to save our pennies. Sure enough, power outage around 8pm. We waited an hour or two, hoped it would come back on, did the math after Steve reported the temp was dropping at an average rate of 2-3 degrees per hour, and eventually, phoned a friend. Naturally, our good friends had booked a babysitter and were out on a date at some new, hip restaurant downtown. Such a contrast to our evening on the couch, in snuggies, reading a book aloud and trying to will the power back on. I digress. I meant it when I described these friends as good friends because without hesitation they agreed we could come sleep over at their house for the night. All of us. Me, Steve, Sam... Riley and Penny. They called us on their way home from dinner, and the five of us headed over for one, big, warm, non-romantic family sleepover. Happy Valentine's Day!
