Going well

When things are generally going well in our life, I have this terrible tendency to think, 

'Ok, when is the ball going to drop?
          When will the bubble burst?
                    When is it all going to come crashing down?'

And the reason those questions are terrible is because they are fueled by an improper view of God, the One who is to be thanked for the blessings and good things and to be trusted (and even thanked because of his mercy and care) in the midst of the hard things. Some times difficult events arise suddenly during an easy or comfortable season of life, but the Lord does not purpose the order events with malicious intent. His Word tells us that "in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). He is for us. Indeed. 

Things are going well. Praise the Lord! May he grant me a heart of gratitude, a spirit of trust, a joy that will shine in this season and endure and not wane in more difficult times, and a clear and steady image of the real God of the universe who lovingly directs my steps and sets before me his good plan.


This is the God who loves me, who I serve, who I believe...

The Lord is gracious and merciful,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

The Lord is good to all,
    and his mercy is over all that he has made.

...The Lord is faithful in all his words
    and kind in all his works.

The Lord upholds all who are falling
    and raises up all who are bowed down.

The eyes of all look to you,
    and you give them their food in due season.

You open your hand;
    you satisfy the desire of every living thing. 

The Lord is righteous in all his ways
    and kind in all his works.

The Lord is near to all who call on him,
    to all who call on him in truth.

He fulfills the desire of those who fear him;
    he also hears their cry and saves them.  

The Lord preserves all who love him,
    but all the wicked he will destroy.

My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
    and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.
