After a trip to the emergency vet on Christmas Eve, we started to wonder if Riley was really going to
heal :( The answer is yes, he will, but it is going to take a long time and a lot of rest. Also, we need to lay down the law! I should back up a little, like I said, we went to emergency vet. We had been restricting his activity, no walks, no romps in the yard, nothing, but when we got to my mom's for Christmas "break" we let our guard down. He and Penny just started chasing each other in the yard and gallivanting about, it was actually refreshing to see him run. Well, 2 days later, he could not even get up off the ground. It was too much pain to lift himself up. So off to the vet we went. The doctor confirmed everything we already knew, and charged us to
really be strict about what he does and does not do (meaning... NO off-leash activity for 2 months! NO walks for 2 weeks then slowly, gradually increasing t0 one 10 min. walk every other day, then 20min, and so on) because as a dog, he does not know how to control himself. She also loaded Riley up with meds and gave us extra in case of another flare up. Riley was drugged up alright. Think, 80lb limp noodle, literally. Now, he is doing well. He's shown no signs of pain or discomfort in the last month, and after no activity for awhile, we are starting to take 10/15 min. walks every other day like prescribed. What a saga! Hopefully, he continues to improve. We may even consider the doggie chiropractor this year.
